''I am first of all a film maker. I put music in my films because popular music is important in my life and if I'm making contemporary films, why shouldn't it be important to my characters? For 'White Nights,' I wanted a song at the end to exemplify a sort of universal brotherhood. 'Separate Lives' couldn't do it, it was a male-female song. But Lionel Richie is the best at that kind of anthem, so I went after him." - Taylor Hackford (director)
